Department: Fremmed- og smittestoff

Researcher at Dept. of Contaminants and biohazard developing and applying state-of-the-art organic analytical methods to study environmental fate, bioaccumulation, exposure pathways of organic contaminants (legacy and emerging organic xenobiotics). Techniques: Liquid and gas chromatography/tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS and GC-MS/MS).

Curriculum Vitae

Research Focus: My research explores the occurrence, fate, and effects of a wide array of organic contaminants, including legacy and emerging xenobiotics, across food and environmental matrices. I specialize in developing and validating multicomponent analytical methods for their quantitative analysis, utilizing advanced chromatographic techniques (GC and HPLC) paired with mass spectrometry. This work directly supports high-precision monitoring and assessment efforts in environmental and food safety.
Recent Advances in Analytical Methods: In recent years, I have expanded my research scope to encompass suspect and non-target screening, leveraging high-resolution mass spectrometry for the identification and quantification of unknown organic contaminants in seafood and environmental samples. This methodological approach enhances our capability to detect novel and emerging contaminants.
Current Research Leadership: I am currently leading the NFR-funded project "FEARLESS" (Researcher Project for Young Talents, 2023-2026). This project is dedicated to advancing our understanding of the transfer and transformation of unknown organofluorine substances through the marine food chain, with a specific focus on Norwegian seafood. FEARLESS will drive the development of novel analytical methods, bioassays, and models, supporting innovative approaches to contaminant assessment and risk evaluation in marine ecosystems.
Accredited Laboratory Responsibilities: At the IMR's accredited analytical chemistry laboratory, I am actively involved in regular proficiency testing in partnership with European Union Reference Laboratories (EURL) and Norsk Akkreditering, ensuring compliance and excellence in analytical standards. I hold scientific responsibility for Method 292, an accredited method dedicated to the detection of persistent organic pollutants in seafood, underscoring my commitment to maintaining the highest standards in contaminant monitoring.
