My current project aims to develop an analytical platform in order to detect and characterize nanoparticles in the marine environment. The project is primarily motivated by the poorly understood fine-particulate fraction of mining waste being deposited into the ocean through the process of submarine tailings deposition (STD). Until now, there are no empiric data regarding the environmental fate and toxicity of the fine-particulate waste. This is due to the difficulties of detection and characterization as well as STD being uncommon in an international context.

I have a cross-disciplinary background in bio-nanotechnology from NTNU. For the time being, I am working primarily with electron microscopy and single particle inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry method development while learning about geochemistry and ultratrace level analytical chemistry.
