Subjectarea
The main subject area is research and advise on animal welfare in marine mammals, particularly related to hunting and killing methods but also non-hunting anthropogenic threats to marine mammals such as bycatch / entanglement of large whales, whale watching and more. The advisory duties also include euthanasia of stranded cetaceans and resque operations of cetacenas entrapped in shallow water or polls.
Other research areas are pathological investigations / heath assessment of bycaught and stranded marine mammals.
Advisory duties also include participation in national delegations to:
- The International Whaling Commission (IWC)
- IWC Scientific Committee
- The North Atlantic Marine Mammal Commission (NAMMCO)
- NAMMCO Committee on Hunting Methods
