Even though jellyfish have a centuries long history as food in Asia, we have little knowledge about them.

Globally, there are 35 species that are considered edible. Two of these are found in northern waters: the moon jellyfish and the helmet jellyfish.

It remains to be seen whether these species will meet the requirements for the Asian market in the long run, or if they may somehow become part of Norwegian food culture.

The Institute of Marine Research will work to determine whether our jellyfish are suitable as food with regard to contaminants and nutritional value.
