The research group consists of about 40 scientists, technicians, PhD candidates and students working at the institute’s research stations in Tromsø, Bergen and Austevoll.

Areas of scientific responsibility

Research and management advice for the sustainable use of marine resources, with a focus on:
• Shellfish (e.g. lobsters, crabs, prawns, scallops).
• Ecological effects of human activity in the marine environment, specifically aquaculture, petroleum activity, mining and climate impacts.
• Ecological effects and dispersal of introduced benthic species (e.g. king crabs and snow crabs).
• Processes and functioning of benthic ecosystems.
